Some local forthcoming events and concerts
Sunday February 26th 2.30 – 4.30pm Derby Cathedral, College Place, Derby DE1 3DY as part of the Wright of Derby Festival. Musica Donum Dei, with Richard Hodges (harpsichord), and ‘Voices’ choir, directed by Ann Miller. Admission, free.
Joseph Wright was not only a painter of the first rank, but also a keen musician. We present a mixture of music Wright might have played and heard, including the flute sonata in A by Charles Denby, flute quartet by J.C. Bach, ‘Zadok the Priest’ by Handel, along with a new string quartet by John Mackenzie, a Derby-based composer, inspired by Wright’s work.

Saturday March 24th 7.30pm St Mark Passion, J.S. Bach, Derby Cathedral Derby Bach Choir , with the Bach Baroque Ensemble, leader Nicolettte Moonen, conductor Richard Roddis. First performance in English of J.S. Bach's newly-restored St Mark Passion, translation commissioned by the choir.

Sung in German with St Mary’s choir, and Paradiso playing on period instruments, directed by John Keys.

Local ensemble saraBande will perform all six of JS Bach's Brandenburg
Concertos at St Peter's Church in Nottingham city centre over these three Saturdays in May. Each concert will begin with a short pre-performance talk at 11am.
Coffee and biscuits are served from 10.15am.
Admission free, with donations to the church music fund.
Saturday May 26th, 7.30pm Christ Church, Chilwell, NG9 4AS (near Beeston), Nottingham.
A Concert of Renaissance and Baroque Music, to include music by Bach, Handel, and Gabrieli. Choral pieces, recorder solos, viol consorts, recorder consorts. Given by students and friends of Wendy Hancock, with Elizabeth Liddle (viola da gamba).
Free admission, retiring collection in aid of charity. Everyone is welcome.
