e-petition for the return of zero-rate VAT on alterations to listed church buildings

There is an e-petition on th Government website caliing for the return of zero-rate VAT on listed church buildings.

The imposition of VAT at the standard rate for such works was a part of the recent budget. This therefore will add 20% to any works that churches will not have budgeted for. Please follow the link below so that you sign the e-petition. When an e-petition gets more than 100,000 signatures it becomes eligible for a House of Commons debate. This could be an opportunity to get this VAT rate change reversed.

    This e-petition closes at 09.45 on 30 June 2012

Welcome to St Osmunds, Derby website. I hope you find the website interesting and helpful in getting to know something about our church. We are trying to reach out to as many people as we can in helping people  to discover something of their spiritual nature and what it means to live with faith in Jesus Christ in these busy days. In this new year of 2012 I hope you will find a renewed sense of a journey with God. A God who reaches out to you personally with a deep desire of genuine love to you.

At the moment we are in the churhces season of  Ascensiontide . Generally a time of thinking of how Jesus ended His earthly ministry. We read of the dramatic moments of His exit from the world in the Gospels and what this might mean for us. Its certainly a moment Christians need to mark as we reecall Christs physical exit from amongst His disciples it marks the begining of the disciples own heroic attempts to follow in His teaching and ways. His ending marks anew start. How often life throws these kind of opportunities our way. An ending  a new start.                      Something completed  a new window opens with a freah perspective and opportunity.

My experience has shown me that many people from all kinds of  backgrounds are constantly looking at their lives and its relationship to spirituality. Questions like Who am I? Where am I going? are regularly asked and the search for meaning, purpose and significance are always with us. This can be a question asked for oneself by oneself or as a group.

Silence and prayer and listening to the inner self are some ways we can begin to answer those questions and as Christians, we believe, we can find a deeper meaning and fulfilment in and through life, by an abiding faith and relationship with God.

My hope is as you peruse this site you might find something that sparks your interest in Christianity and in some way we might be able to assist you in that journey of faith and stimulates your thoughts for prayer and action.

Do email or get in touch if we can help in any way by prayers or simply a visit to our church.

    God's richest Blessing.

    Rev'd Glenn Martin.

    Vicar.
